Pack Driver (565) Enlisted Personnel
Leads pack animals used in transporting ammunition, matériel, supplies, and other cargo necessary for the functioning of field units operating in mountainous or jungle terrain.
Leads single animal during marches while mounted or on foot; rides or walks beside herded animals keeping them in line. Saddles and unsaddles pack animals with a Philip's pack saddle designed for hanger-positioned or rope-hitched loads. Adjusts loads during marches by tightening ropes or straps.
May assist in preparing and loading cargo and in lashing loads.
Must have more than average strength and be capable of enduring long marches on foot over rough terrain. Must understand care and management of horses or mules. Should be able to tie such knots as diamond hitch, squaw hitch, and other knots of slings.
