Airplane Power Plant Mechanic-Gunner (1684) Enlisted Personnel
In connection with inspection and repair of airplanes, observes operation of airplane power plants and makes necessary repairs within limitations of available tools and equipment. Fires aerial machine guns on combat missions.
Diagnoses power plant malfunctioning and operating difficulties which cannot be corrected by organization airplane and engine mechanics. Adjusts and repairs such features of power plant as carburetors, superchargers, injectors, fuel and oil pumps, and ignition units. Makes unit replacements of defective power plant parts.
Uses such tools as wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, and portable testing equipment.
Must be familiar with the principles of operation and methods of repairing airplane power plant equipment.
