Wirksworth Back to the 40s 2025

14th June - 15th June 2025

The "Wirksworth Back to the 40s" event is set to return for its second year from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15, 2025, hosted by the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in the charming town of Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Building upon the success of its inaugural 2024 weekend, the 2025 event promises an even more immersive experience, with the entire town participating through window displays, decorations, and local businesses engaging in a ration book raffle. A notable addition for 2025 is the military encampment at Idridgehay station, featuring captivating military displays and vehicles set against the picturesque backdrop of passing steam trains.

At Wirksworth station, visitors can explore an expanded trader village offering vintage clothing, military memorabilia, and various other items. The station concourse will come alive with live music and entertainment from vintage performers, delivering beloved 1940s hits. The station yard will showcase homefront displays and classic vehicles, providing insights into life in Britain during the Second World War. For those eager to extend the festivities, a 1940s swing dance is scheduled at Wirksworth Town Hall on Saturday, June 14, featuring live entertainment from the Ashby Little Big Band and vintage DJ Paddy O'Kaye. Tickets for the dance are priced at £12.00, with a reduced rate of £8.00 for local residents and holders of Ecclesbourne Valley Railway platform or train tickets.
